Collection: Candles

We have sourced a beautiful range of beeswax candles from around New Zealand, and have a selection that also use our own beeswax from our beehives.

Beeswax is a natural by-product that comes from extracting large amounts of honey. As beekeepers we try to reuse and repurpose as much of the wax and other byproducts as we can.

Beeswax is originally produced by the worker bee and is secreted from 8 glands under their abdomen, it slides out in a very thin sheet of wax, very much like scales of a fish. It starts off clear and becomes yellow in colour from the propolis, pollen and honey that combines with it along the way. Beeswax contains similar antibacterial and anti - inflammatory properties to honey which is why it is popular in the making of skincare.

Beeswax candles are very popular to use in conjunction with meditation as they burn longer and brighter than any other wax, the wax is also a natural air purifier that releases negative ions to help remove pollutants from the air.

These beeswax candles are all hand poured and that’s why every candle will be unique and have its own individual quirks. Wax bloom is something you may notice forming on your candle, this is a completely natural process and a soft cloth will remove the powdery white film that will develop, this is all part of the natural oxidisation process.
